| Martin Strobel was born in Hilpertsau, Gernsbach District, Grand Duchy of Baden, Germany, on September 7, 1818. Johanna Schiel, who married Martin on January 10, 1847, was born in Gernsbach on March 30, 1823. Martin, and
Johanna who was then three months pregnant with her second child, and their two-year-old son, Edward, left Hilpertsau for America on September 30, 1849. It is for their descendants and to recognize Martin's and Johanna’s desire, dedication and spirit to produce a better life for their children that this web site is dedicated
